Market 314

A summary of the recipes and foodstuffs at the home of two energetic amateur chefs.

After a wonderful evening with two good friends who we haven't seen recently...I'm looking out over the rooftops of our small city, sipping on a cup of coffee (brewed fresh with beans from our local coffee shop), reading the news, and listening to music that takes me back a few years.

Oh, yeah...wirelessly.

Wireless network provides an internet connection and my laptop's portability and battery allow me to move about the apartment without wires. And thanks to AirPort Express, the music (on my computer) is playing through my stereo speakers on the other side of the apartment.

I raise my coffee mug in a sarcastic toast to Bill Gates. It's mornings like these that I'm more than proud to be a part of the enlightened 5 percent of the market.

The female contributor would like to take this opportunity (the making of lists) to add a list of the condiments that her companion enjoys. She is often quoted as saying, "You don't like the food, you just like the condiments." Let the record show that the male contributor thinks that this quip has been stolen from a recent movie or TV show. Not suprisingly, the female contributor denies this allegation.

So here is an abridged list of condiments that he likes (more than food):

  • Salsa
  • Pesto
  • Sirachi
  • Cholula
  • Remoulade
  • Melted butter for crabs
  • Old Bay and salt mixture for crabs and corn
  • Marinara sauce
  • Spicy Ranch dressing (on pizza)
  • Hummus
  • "Basically, you like anything that can be smeared, dipped, squirted, or spread on what you're supposed to be eating."
  • And, most importantly, salt
  • In the realm of desserts, any peanut butter, chocolate, or whipped cream that can be melted and slobbered on the item...
  • For breakfast foods, yogurt on anything
  •   The female contributor wants to make a list of the things that her male counterpart has eaten as a facet of his evolution after meeting the female contributor:
  • pesto
  • sprouts (on a sandwich)
  • roasted red peppers
  • lentils (sort of; hesitantly)
  • egg salad
  • bleu cheese
  • bean chili (NOTE: the inclusion of this item is contested)
  • apple crisp
  • orange pinwheel biscuits (as if the female counterpart ever makes them)
  • asparagus
  • baked oatmeal
  • brie
  • tomato and mozzarella salad
  • mussels, clams, etc.
  • warm dandelion dressing on boiled potatoes
  • sweet potato fries
  • gazpacho

    Well...that's a start.

The male contributor would like to point out that the above list represents many of his favorite edibles these days. I guess that means that his female companion has added a great deal to the quality of his life...or something Hallmark-ish like that.
  •   Why are first-days-back-to-work so painful? I guess it's a sign that you had a good weekend; we had a great weekend and plan to tell-all later. But first...Happy Hour for just the two of us.

We unscrewed a bottle of Big House Red and a jar of organic chipotle salsa, got out our foodie magazines and dove right in.

Dinner (a frozen pizza) is in the oven. We had a great idea for dinner but decided to wait until tomorrow...after going to market for the ingredients tomorrow morning. This gives us a chance to unwind and organize ourselves...and enjoy this amazing food and wine.......

    Speaking of....
